MTB-Pro Seb Breuer finds adventures on his bike packing, for which situation which headlight is best suited.

One of the most versatile athletes from the Supernova area is certainly SEB Breuer. The former U23 road driver moved very successfully to mountain bike, where he has been able to clear numerous podium places in the marathon and ultramarathon in recent years and gained the DM title and UCI European champion title to crown. Now he saw the time to reorient himself: this year he only wants to be in races in Gravel- and Bike packingStart area.

Such changes for SEB are not brand new. For someone like him, a bit of variety always had to be. In his past as a mountain biker, he has repeatedly built cycling into his training. He also prepared between his missions in the MTB national team's squad at events such as the “Transcontinental Race”, which is one of the hardest and most prestigious bike packing races with a distance of approx. 4000 km. Unfortunately, the race did not take place during the two years of the pandemic, so it initially only remained the first training sessions. From this year it will be all the more serious: “In the future, I want to focus primarily on gravel and bike packing. I am excited about the challenge of exploring new borders and experimenting with new approaches to training and material. I also find it very attractive to explore new places and countries. ”

The first gravel race is in Girona with “The Traka” (360 km) at the end of April. To prepare, he made a “trip” bike packing in the middle of winter with a good 600 km, three days. "My trainer Frederic Dahmen from WatTwerk and I have focused on further basic kilometers. Of course, such a trip is ideal for this," says Seb. In the past, he usually did such trips in summer and in the best weather. Therefore, deal with a completely different equipment again. Among other things, it quickly became clear that he would need a really good light on the bike: “Even during such a bike tour with additional luggage on the bike, the average speed is around 30 kilometers per hour. Then dawn, tight dirt roads or curves can quickly become confusing and the longer braking distance due to the luggage could become tight in an emergency. ” In order to have the best environmental perception in every situation, SEB has therefore decided on the M99 Pro B54 headlights. The fact that he can switch on and off the high beam via a small button on the handlebars and that the charging level of the battery is also displayed in the Garmin Particularly practical. After three days in the saddle, 620 kilometers and around 22 hours travel time, Seb in Freudenstadt, his planned destination. His route took him from Bensheim in South Hesse over the Swabian Alb to Lake Constance and again northwards via a detour to Switzerland In the Black Forest. In terms of weather, there was something from everything: rain, wind, sun and snow. Fortunately, he was prepared with the right equipment against all adversities.

These three days formed an important step in preparing for the long races in summer. Not only for fitness, but also to have feedback on the material and make possible changes to the setup, because: "Trying is about studying". As a previously convinced user of a hub dynamos, Seb wants to rethink his choice for the right lamp over a distance of this length. Especially the enormously strong high beam convinced him because it feels a step safer on night trips. In addition, the battery lasts long and can be easily stowed in the top tube bag or are attached to the top tube. However, he will be put back on the agony of choice shortly. He will test our new M99 DY Pro, in which a super hell high beam is available to him for the first time. We are already excited to see which system it finds better in the long -distance races 😉 We will keep you up to date with his experiences!
