COMMUTING – WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO DO IT? #2

25/05/2022

It's definitely time to make the switch to green mobility!

Most of our employees already commute to work by bike. They use different routes and setups: sporty at times and relaxed at others. This blog series will show you what equipment they use for their daily outdoor adventure.

They will inspire you!

Why do you commute by bike? What are the greatest advantages for you?
I value that I can exercise in the fresh air and not be disturbed or distracted during my time on the bike. I get my best ideas and insights when I am riding my bike.

How long is your route, and what is the elevation profile?

One of my routes runs from Emmendingen to Gundelfingen. It is 11.2 km long. The surface consists of a mixture of gravel and asphalt and is essentially flat. Alternatively, I can ride on a tarred path through the forest.

What’s your bike?

My bike is a Cube Nuroad Race FE, which I leased. It is a fully equipped gravel bike with mudguards and a rack.

Do you ride in winter or in bad weather?

Yes, I ride in winter and in bad weather.

What equipment is a essential (depending on the season)?

Rainwear (shoe covers, rain pants, rain jacket, helmet rain-cover) and a windbreaker are essential.

What else is in your luggage?

I always take along a repair kit, a first aid kit, tools, a headset with a wind absorber, a bike pump, a spare tube, and clothes to change into after I've had a shower.

Which SUPERNOVA light do you have or prefer to use?

My bike came equipped with a Supernova E3 Pure 3 dynamo front light. However, I'm testing the M99 DY Pro at the moment. Because I work in the development department of Supernova, I have the pleasure of constantly trying out the latest prototypes.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a bike commuter?

The most challenging thing is choosing the right clothes. It's uncomfortable if they aren't waterproof, too warm, or not windproof. That's why I carry a wide variety of clothes for all eventualities and can change on the way. I opted for a luggage rack and panniers to be able to transport more luggage. I also wanted to avoid getting a wet back from a backpack.

Every year, our commuters look forward to the STADTRADELN campaign, which involves 21 days of cycling extra kilometers to make people aware of mobility beyond combustion engines. Each time, our team engages in an epic battle of kilometers. That’s why SUPERNOVA always comes out on top of the Stadtradeln rankings of the municipality and beyond :-D
