INTERVIEW MIT SUPERNOVA-GESCHÄFTSFÜHRER ÜBER INNOVATIONEN

Interview with supernova managing director about innovations

In the past few years, bicycle lights have been presented among all cycling components with the most innovations. Why is that? What does the future of lighting seeing cycling? Supernova managing director Marcus Wallmeyer in an interview.

In the bicycle light area, an enormous amount of basic things have changed in recent years, especially with e-bike lighting one “light revolution” is currently coming after the other, which is gladly accepted by the market. Security for the cyclist has increased considerably during the night and also during the day. Nowadays, for example, it is completely normal for many to travel with daytime running during the day. However, the ultimate innovation is the high beam. Everyone knows it from the car and nobody wants to do without it. Taxable remote and low beam is similar to the jump in innovation, like the first suspension fork on the mountain bike.

Place of cycling in society

The legal situation has approved numerous security -relevant innovations in recent years that have given the light manufacturers completely new possibilities. Politicians have finally set higher priorities for the most environmentally friendly means of transport. This ensures the enormous innovation power. But a lot can be done especially for the bike without a motor. It would currently be time to work on the legislation for dynamos. The performance is simply missing for high beam. This is not due to the technology, but due to the rules. Therefore, I would like the legislator to continue to implement the ideas that we propose (e.g. through the two-wheeler industry association).

However, there is a second reason: cycling has received a completely different status in society. Many years ago it was difficult to find good people to develop good bicycle lighting. The auto industry had simply "swallowed" the best. Nowadays it is "cool" to work for the bicycle industry. You can find extremely good developers who are bike enthusiasts. This is the basis for innovation: people who want to develop products with passion that they can use in their free time and on their way to work. The technology for the new development of products is also well advanced. This significantly shortens development cycles.

Innovations in bicycle light: cooling measures and more LED

The blatant brightness gain ...

... is to be justified with the use of better cooling measures and more built -in LEDs. In addition, the illumination is getting better and better through complex light calculations and optimizations of the surface quality of the reflectors and lenses. Here we have been able to increase the brightness by 700 % in the past three years.

The trends in the taillight?

In the future, homogeneous light with high light density will be the clear trend. Wafer -thin luminous lines make the taillight a styling element for bicycle designers. In the future, the taillight becomes a design light signature that not only makes the wheel chic, but also safer. Brake light is also being asked more.

Bicycle light: What does the future look like?

Where does the future go with a bicycle light?

The optical integration into the overall design of the wheel will progress greatly and the technical integration into the drive system. The bicycle manufacturers will use the light as a design element to emit from the mass.

In the future, the e-mountain bike in particular will probably come with light at the factory, with light power headlights, which are integrated in terms of design to the brand's corporate identity.
