Our history

"When I set out to train at night for the first time with a homemade front light on a gloomy November evening almost 25 years ago, I would never have dreamed that this would turn into a company with over 50 employees two decades later. In 1995, nothing on the market would have allowed me to continue my long training sessions in the dark winter evenings. So the first font light came about purely for my benefit, but friends were soon asking me questions about my robust "day-extender," and I realized that good light on the bike could inspire others. Two years and a good 20,000 night-riding kilometers later, I founded the company Supernova in 1997. A lighting revolution began, which is still being driven forward at an increasing speed and predicts a bright future. Despite all my success, what has always remained important to me is that we only develop products that I am passionate about and of whose design and quality I am 100% convinced. I personally test every prototype on the way to work or at 24h races to find out for myself what the greatest benefit will be for our customers. I thank my team for always allowing me to make the world a little brighter."

The first SUPERNOVA front light

LIGHT FROM A TOMATO CAN! - The idea came to the young racer Marcus Wallmeyer in November 1995 while eating pasta: "If only I had a good front light, I could carry on training"... There was nothing on the market at the time that could be used for long night rides. Marcus made the first Supernova front light in his parents' garage utilizing a can of tomato paste, a halogen burner, and a motorcycle battery. He could finally continue his endurance training during long nights and dark winter months.

The first production model

The first production model

Supernova products were instantly recognizable even in the first model: aluminum housing, waterproof, robust design with a bottle battery and high reliability. The front light was used successfully in 24h races in the very first year.

Brightest halogen front light

After the huge success of the single front light, Marcus Wallmeyer thought, "Why not make it twice as bright?" The double-front-light technology was then the distinguishing feature of the brightest Supernova front lights for more than a decade.

Xenon power with 10,000 volts!

Anyone who could afford a Supernova P92-D front light for an unheard-of 1,690 German marks at the time was king of the racetrack. The 10,000-volt arc of the xenon burner was as bright as a modern car headlight.

This multifunctional front light with blue light and siren was developed in close cooperation with the California Police. The particularly robust lithium-ion battery developed for this purpose was adopted for other headlamps - a world first in this field!

First dynamo front light

First dynamo front light

In 2004, Supernova created the E3, our world's first mass-produced dynamo front light with powerful LEDs. Initially, it was only used by Swiss manufacturers and outshone everything else on the market many times over. The tail light was ideally suited to the front light and offered maximum brightness within uniquely small dimensions.

P99-D – The perfect Xenon font light

With the new handlebar control unit and two dimmable, individually switchable xenon burners with different light widths, the P99-D represented the optimal form of this lighting technology. Many race victories were achieved with this powerful light system.

The original prototype was designed and built personally by Marcus Wallmeyer in 2000. He then decided to launch the bike in a strictly limited series as a tribute to the roots of cycling. In 2017, the Waldmeister bike was then added to the German Museum in Munich to mark the 200th anniversary of the bicycle.

The TERRAFLUX lens

The TERRAFLUX lens

This anti-glare lens was a big step forward for Supernova because it was the first time a lens calculation was made completely to our own ideal specifications, and it is still found today with slight modifications in some of our best front lights.

INFINITY - Nabendynamo

In order to be able to offer an energy supply equal to the front lights, Supernova developed the Infinity dynamo series based on an innovative disc generator, which is characterized by the highest efficiency, best bearings and the well-known good design. Several ultra-distance races such as the Transcontinental Race have been won with an Infinity S.
