Sleepless nights, brooding heat, long -awaited liberation: Sebastian Breuer wins Badlands 2022 with the new M99 Dy Pro Dynamo Circuitry!
06/10/2022
"Winning this race was the biggest goal I could have hoped to achieve in 2022. The terrain and the race length were perfect for me,"
Seb said, full of emotion. Seb is still able to rejoice like a newly crowned champion despite it being just one of many interviews he has given in recent weeks. He had every reason to be elated because the conditions were extremely challenging. He had to ride for 750 km with an elevation gain of 15,000 m. And it was all on gravel roads through Andalusia's barren, deserted sierras. By day it was a scorching 43° C, and at night the temperature sank to 12°. You must train hard for these conditions and need good nutrition and pacing strategies.
"For me, it was essential not to overdo it. In the beginning, many riders went full throttle right away. I followed my coach's instructions strictly and rode at my own pace the whole time. That way, I always had enough fuel in the tank,"
said Seb, whom SCYENCE has coached since the beginning of this year.is strategy paid off after only 180 km when he took the lead. Despite a wrong turn he took by mistake, he kept hold of the lead and crossed the finish line with a new course record of an incredible 43 h and 26 min!

The win was liberating for Seb considering his setbacks in training due to illness and an early withdrawal from the Transcontinental Race. Once again, the European MTB Marathon Champion showed what he is capable of. It's great that he found the right attitude to perform at his best despite a challenging start to the season.
"After missing my targets at the TCR, I didn't get frustrated but immediately focused on preparing for Badlands,"
explained Seb, who has to balance his training with a full-time job like a part-time athlete. When you also have to plan the route, as at the TCR, it's understandable that it's a major stressor for him. Fortunately, the route for the Badlands was predefined. The right equipment was all that he needed. Seb opted for "backpacking light" with as little luggage as possible. He didn't have to think twice about lighting:
"I didn’'t want to worry about umpteen devices, their compatibility and possible technical failures, but rather I wanted to just start riding. That's why dynamo lights were the only option for me."
------
That's exactly what the engineers at SUPERNOVA had in mind: Just mount the front light, connect it to the dynamo, set off, and forget about the technology. The only thing that matters to the rider is that the device does what it's supposed to.
In fast descents, Seb loved the dazzlingly bright high beam. He said, "Once you get used to the M99 DY PRO, there's no turning back."
