Our Earth is unique – it is our home, our ecological niche, the only place where we as humans can exist and thrive.
In recent decades, we have developed into a globally interconnected society with a worldwide economy that influences nearly all of our planet’s ecosystems. Today, we are the dominant factor driving changes on Earth – an era that many refer to as the Anthropocene, the age of humans.
The consequences are visible: climate change, species extinction, and the overuse of natural resources show that we are reaching the planet’s limits. We cannot put unlimited strain on ecosystems without endangering our own livelihoods. Nature does not negotiate.
At the same time, humanity has agreed across cultures on fundamental principles that define the right to a dignified life for all. These principles are enshrined in international human rights standards and form the second essential pillar of sustainable development—a development that protects both our environment and our fellow human beings.
We are convinced: a sustainable economic and development model goes beyond mere growth. The British economist Kate Raworth, with her concept of "sustainable development in balance," describes a path for economic activity within a safe and just operating space. This approach is our guiding principle for sustainable development. For us, there is no Plan(et) B.
Sustainability needs clear goals – a vision for the future alone is not enough. We need guidance to focus and direct our actions effectively. That’s why we are guided by scientifically grounded, internationally recognized sustainability goals. Together with our company philosophy(Link) , they set the direction for us.
As part of the international, European, and German bicycle industry, we are positioned within a comprehensive sustainability context.
Global: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) comprise 17 global goals in the five “P” areas: Peace, Partnership, Prosperity, People, and Planet. They set the agenda for global sustainable development until 2030.(Link)
Europe: The European Green Deal, including the EU Strategy for Sustainable Mobility, is driving the ecological transformation of the European economy—with the bicycle as an integral part of sustainable mobility solutions. (Link)
Industry: In addition, we use the recommendations of bicycle associations to actively help shape the sustainable development of our company and the industry. (Link) Our company philosophy complements this orientation: design, quality, and sustainability are the three cornerstones that guide our actions.(Link)

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) comprise 17 goals in the areas of Peace, Partnership, Prosperity, People, and Planet, also known as the 5Ps. According to the concept of sustainable development in balance, these goals serve to protect planetary boundaries as well as to promote prosperity and justice for all people.
EU Green New Deal
The Green New Deal is Europe’s plan for transforming the economy of the European Union in the face of global ecological challenges. Its goals are aimed at making our ways of living and working, producing and consuming more sustainable, so that we can live healthier and more prosperous lives, make businesses more innovative, and protect the planet and all life on it, including Europe’s natural heritage.
Our Standards
Setting goals determines the course – standards define how we implement them in practice. Both form the foundation for our actions and the assumption of responsibility for more sustainable development. (Link) Fundamental for us are the principles of corporate due diligence by the UN and OECD (Link) and the associated EU standards. These standards concern three important areas of corporate sustainability:

This is why they are commonly referred to as ESG standards. You can learn more about our ESG management approach here. (Link) For the continuous improvement of our environmental performance (Environment), we also use the environmental management system according to ISO 14001. (Link)
And for transparency in our sustainability performance in the areas of Environment, Social, and Governance, we rely on the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
The goals and guiding principles of these ESG standards shape our company policies for dealing with material sustainability topics – these are at the heart of our responsibility.
