There is no safe cycling without good lighting. That’s exactly where our contribution to sustainable mobility begins.

We don’t see our headlights as accessories, but as enablers. They help determine whether people feel safe on the road—and whether they choose to use a bike for everyday mobility in the first place. That’s where we come in: with lighting solutions that deliver technical and functional excellence—and spark emotional connection.
Because with every light we produce, we help people move safely, visibly, and emission-free. Our products are not just technological components—they are part of a social shift toward healthier, more climate-friendly mobility.
Our products are designed not just to accompany this shift—but to make it possible:
In development:
through lighting systems that are durable, modular, repairable, and energy-efficient.
In use:
through intuitive handling, reliable performance, and visibility in all weather—whether in city traffic, on long-distance rides, or on a speed pedelec.
In dialogue:
through formats like Supernova meets, where we engage directly with the bike community, dealers, and partners—listening and learning together
Where we stand
For more than 25 years, Supernova has been producing headlights for bicycles, e-bikes, and speed pedelecs that meet the technical and functional requirements of a sustainable mobility transition.
Our lighting solutions serve a broad spectrum of cycling mobility—from conventional bikes to high-performance e-bikes and road-legal speed pedelecs; from everyday urban commuting to sporty use—even in extreme conditions, powered by dynamo or battery.
Our innovative product strategy is guided by timeless design, top-tier quality, and genuine sustainability, focusing on durability, repairability, and resource efficiency:
All lighting systems are designed for at least ten years of use under the toughest conditions.
We offer a five-year warranty on our headlights and carry out repairs within 48 hours for up to 10 years after purchase.
Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) have been calculated for selected products. The CO₂ footprint of the MINI 3 PRO, for example, is 10.61 kg CO₂e over a 10-year lifecycle.

Where we’re going
Our strategic ambition—to become the most sustainable manufacturer of headlights for bicycles, e-bikes, and speed pedelecs—is backed by clear operational targets. These targets are derived from our company-wide policy on sustainable mobility and align with the criteria of the EU Environmental Taxonomy and the goals of the European Mobility Strategy.
By 2030 at the latest, we aim to develop, produce, and distribute only lighting systems and components that:
Comply with the EU Taxonomy as defined in Article 9 of the EU Taxonomy Regulation in conjunction with Annex I of Delegated Regulation 2023/2485, Activity 3.18,
Make a measurable contribution to the mobility transition and climate goals Klimaziele leisten,
Follow the principles of circular economy, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction—in alignment with existing Supernova policies on climate action, energy, and circularity
These objectives are supported by five operational guidelines:
Taxonomy compliance as standard
Every new Supernova product will be validated using an internal taxonomy checklist covering requirements such as energy efficiency, repairability, lifespan, and safe application in active mobility.
Circular-Ready by Design:
New developments follow a modular design with documented repairability, return options, and—where technically feasible—a recycled content share of at least 30% in housings and structural materials.
Focus on mobility impact
We prioritize applications in urban and intermodal transport—such as lighting concepts for cargo bikes, speed pedelecs, commuter bikes, and everyday bikes—offering high visibility, safety, and user-friendliness.
Make CO₂ impact visible
By 2026, we will establish an impact model that quantifies our contribution to CO₂ emission reductions from car trip substitution. Initial product groups (e.g., MINI 3 PRO) are already assessed through lifecycle analyses.
Integration into product and design processes
All relevant sustainability criteria (e.g., circularity, energy efficiency, avoidance of harmful substances) will be bindingly integrated into the product development process (PDP) and continuously monitored through to market launch.
Our vision is a new class of bicycle lighting shaped by our philosophy: Design. Quality. Sustainability.

Learning points for the future
Developing sustainable mobility solutions brings progress—but also surprises. Here are some of our most important lessons from the world of bicycle and e-bike mobility:
Our most important Aha! moments in the field of sustainable mobility
Durability is more demanding than you think.
Our decision to develop products with a lifespan of at least ten years set high standards—including for our supply chain. We had to learn that technical durability alone isn’t enough: availability of spare parts, modular construction, and repairability are equally crucial for real-world longevity in everyday use.
Circularity starts earlier than expected
Our experience shows: design decisions made in the earliest development phases largely determine whether a product can be circular. Integrating circularity criteria (e.g., recycled content, disassembly, reusability) into the product approval process is not an afterthought—it must be part of the product’s design DNA.
5.3 Unsere Mitwelt / KreislaufwirtschaftAvoiding CO₂ through bicycle lighting can be modeled—but not easily measured.
Understanding how much our products contribute to shifting trips from car to bike is essential for impact measurement. Our approach to developing a model-based, robust framework for quantifying GHG reduction through bicycle lighting is promising—but will be a major challenge.
The EU Taxonomy provides structure—but also new demands.
Applying the EU Taxonomy (Activity 3.18) will help us critically assess our product strategy. At the same time, we’ve learned: proving compliance requires clearly documented processes, checklists, and metrics—from lifespan and repairability to functional performance in a mobility context. This is especially true for speed pedelecs, which are legally classified as motor vehicles. Ensuring compliance with all technical and documentation requirements of the Taxonomy—such as lifespan, repairability, and road traffic approval—poses a particular challenge.
