Why It matters to us

Climate change is one of the greatest global challenges of our time, and Europe aims to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.

Unsere Erde

As a manufacturer of bicycle lighting, we see ourselves as partially responsible: our products encourage cycling as part of a sustainable mobility solution, but their production, transportation, and use also generate emissions.

The main sources of emissions along our product lifecycle include the purchased components and packaging, transportation of pre-products throughout the value chain, energy consumption at our site, and the energy used by our products during their long service life.

At the same time, we see opportunities to reduce emissions—through sustainable, circular material choices, a higher share of recycled materials, more energy-efficient manufacturing, and extending the lifespan of our products, for example, by improving their repairability.

Our ambition

5.3_Nachhaltigkeitsbericht_WEB_1920x1920_Ambitionen_1.png

1.5 degree target

We align with the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement and the Net Zero approach of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

SBTi

Climate-neutral operations

We aim to achieve climate-neutral operations in Germany by maximizing the reduction of our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and offsetting any remaining emissions.

5.3_Nachhaltigkeitsbericht_WEB_1920x1920_Ambitionen_3.png

Avoid, reduce, and offset emissions

Our broader goal is to work with our partners to systematically avoid, reduce, and—where necessary—offset emissions across our entire value chain (Scope 3), in order to make a meaningful contribution to climate action

CO₂e Balance - Where we stand

Since 2023, we have compiled a CO₂e balance (Corporate Carbon Footprint – CCF) for our site in Gundelfingen (Scope 1 and 2) as well as for the most relevant emissions in our value chain (Scope 3).

The main emission sources in our CCF are:

Energy consumption (electricity and heating) at our site

Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

We are aware that our products leave a carbon footprint. That’s why, in collaboration with the Freiburg Energy Agency, we determined the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) for three of our key products. These PCFs make the environmental impact across the full life cycle transparent—and show us how to reduce it.

Sustainable Mobility—Put Into Practice

More than 60% of our employees commute by bicycle, resulting in comparatively low employee mobility emissions.

100% green Electricity

Our Gundelfingen site already runs on 100 % green electricity. Starting in 2026, our office building will be powered entirely by proWindgas from Green Planet Energy, with a minimum of 35 % biogas content.

Where We’re Headed

Our climate action strategy is based on the following guiding principles:Account, Avoid and Reduce, Invest, Engage.

Account:

Measuring and analyzing our greenhouse gas emissions across all relevant scopes (Scope 1, 2, and 3)

Avoid and Reduce:

Implementing emission reduction measures aligned with the 1.5°C target of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Net Zero approach

Invest:

Introducing an internal carbon price to support climate-friendly decisions and to fund external climate protection projects

Engage:

Publicly advocating for climate action, collaborating with partners, and supporting ambitious climate policy

KPIs and Targets

We will define specific KPIs and targets to track the success of our climate action measures by the end of 2025 in collaboration with EARF. These indicators will follow the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero approach. Find out more here:

The Corporate Net-Zero Standard - Science Based Targets Initiative

Our climate action policy focuses on four strategic areas:

Transparent Emissions Accounting & Reporting (Scope 1–3)

Emission Avoidance & Reduction Across the Value Chain

  1. Reduction of energy-related emissions through implementation of our energy policy
  2. Reduction of transport-related emissions by optimizing logistics
  3. Improved material sourcing by integrating more low-emission suppliers
  4. Extending product lifespan through enhanced repairability and modular design approaches (refurbishment, remanufacturing)

Learning points for the future

Our efforts to promote climate action are not always successful. But even unsuccessful measures offer valuable aha! moments from which we can learn for the future.

Our key aha! moments in the field of climate action in 2024 were:

5.9_Nachhaltigkeitsbericht_WEB_1920x1920_Aha.png

Scope 3 emissions in the supply chain:

Our influence on suppliers is limited. Greater transparency, dialogue, and collaboration with our partners are needed.

5.9_Nachhaltigkeitsbericht_WEB_1920x1920_Aha_2.png

Challenges with sea freight

Switching to more environmentally friendly transport methods isn’t always compatible with our production and logistics processes—or with our customers’ delivery expectations.

5.9_Nachhaltigkeitsbericht_WEB_1920x1920_Aha_3.png

Production site

Our production hall is currently heated with oil. Even with the use of renewable energy, we’ve not yet been able to fully replace the oil heating system. The core challenge: meeting base load requirements. We’re actively seeking viable solutions.
